Pub insurance news - Couple rescued from pub fire
The owners of a public house in Staffordshire are likely to be contacting their pub insurance provider, following a fire that left pub residents needing to be rescued by firefighters.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service reports that the fire was caused by fluff and debris igniting in a tumble dryer on the groundfloor which then spread to the staircase.
However, the absence of a functioning smoke alarm may have a negative bearing on any pub insurance claim the owners decide to make.
A spokesperson from the rescue service commented, "In this day and age I can't understand why any property would not have a smoke alarm fitted. All people have to do is ring Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and we will fit one for free. A smoke alarm is a life saving device.
Should the owners succeed in making a claim on their pub insurance, its primary component would be for what the rescue service described as "moderate" property damage to the establishment's kitchen.
Elsewhere, the incident has been reported as "hero dog saves couple". A fire service spokesperson commented, "It was the dog who woke them up. If he hadn't started barking we may very well be dealing with a much more serious incident."
