Warrings’ bar liability insurance provides protection for the staff and customers of your pub, bar or inn.

The Employers' Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969 requires businesses to have employers liability insurance to pay compensation to, and the legal fees of, employees who have been injured or fallen ill through the negligence of their employer.

Bar staff are exposed to the risks of cuts from broken glasses, scalds from hot water or electric shocks from equipment such as faulty dishwasher machines or beer pumps. Cellar hatches could be left inadvertently open; drinks displays and other pub fittings could fall. Any of these could result in an injury to an employee and potentially be deemed the employer’s fault.

Warrings’ bar liability insurance covers legal liability for injury to employees up to £10,000,000. It also covers legal costs up to £250,000 for defending criminal proceedings brought for a breach of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

Public Liability

Public liability insurance covers legal liability for injury to the general public and/or damage to their property as a result of an accident caused by you or your employees whilst working at the pub or in the bar.

A member of the public could slip and hurt themselves on a wet floor caused by spilt drinks which were not promptly cleaned up by your staff. A customer could cut their lip on a chipped or cracked glass served to them by an inattentive barman. The public have become much quicker to claim compensation for injuries these days.

Products Liability

There is always the unfortunate risk of poisoning customers through the supply of drink or food to them at your pub or inn. Products liability insurance covers the cost of damages awarded in respect of accidental injury to members of the public caused through food or drink poisoning. It also provides legal defence costs against criminal proceedings in respect of breaches of the Consumer Protection Act 1987 and of the Food safety Act 1990.
